Desk studies are frequently requested at pre-acquisition
stage to support re-development proposals and identify
potential abnormal costs, to inform land valuations
for sale or re-financing of existing properties, and
to inform ground investigation works. Desk Studies review
and assess all available source data including:

Physical Characteristics:

Geology
|
Mapped solid and superficial geology. Existing
borehole and trial pit logs.

|
Soils
|
Published information from the Soils Survey of
England and Wales 1983.
|
|
Hydrogeology
|
Depth to groundwater, abstraction and discharge
consents. Aquifer status. Potential for pollution
migration.

|
Hydrology
|
Water features; rivers, channels, lakes, ponds
etc., surface abstraction and discharge, potable
supplies.

|
Mining
|
Coal Authority searches, Local Authority searches.
|
|
Ecology
|
Areas of conservation interest, including: SSSI,
SINC'S, NNR'S, LNR'S, SLINC'S.

|
Environmental Quality:
|
|
River Quality
|
Environment Agency information concerning the
known quality of natural and man made watercourses
in England and Wales.

|
Radon
|
NRPB published information concerning the incidence
of radon affected homes in excess of the trigger
level.

|
Waste Management
|
Including the location of operational and non-
operational licensed landfill sites, and IPC/RSA
listed sites.

To summarise and comment on previous reports
